RediClinic and Virginia Attorney General
Team Up to Drive Home the Importance of Annual Flu Vaccinations
Bob McDonnell Receives Flu Shot at Rediclinic in Support
of National Influenza Vaccination Week
RICHMOND (November 27, 2007) –RediClinic
LLC announced today that it has teamed with Virginia Attorney General
Bob McDonnell to address the importance of flu prevention during
National Influenza Vaccination Week. The Attorney General
received his flu shot this morning at the RediClinic located inside
the Forest Hill Avenue Wal-Mart Supercenter.
The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has designated
this week November 27 to December 2, as National Influenza Vaccination
Week. This event is designed to highlight the importance of continuing
influenza (flu) vaccination, as well as foster greater use of flu
vaccine through the months of November, December and beyond.
In
addition, today, Tuesday November 27, 2007, was set aside as Children’s
Flu Vaccination Day, with a focus on vaccinating high-risk children.
Each year, over 20,000 children under age 5 are hospitalized as
a result of influenza. The CDC advises that all school age
children, especially those at high risk and their close contacts,
get vaccinated.
RediClinics,
located inside nine Wal-Mart Supercenters in Greater Richmond,
are offering flu vaccinations to everyone over the age of four
for just $25 and most insurance and MediCare is accepted. No
appointments are necessary and the clinics are open for extended
weekday and weekend hours to accommodate busy consumers.
“Receiving
a flu vaccination is the single, most effective way to avoid getting
the flu, and we are pleased that Attorney General McDonnell received
his vaccination at a RediClinic in support of this important
public health effort,” said Web Golinkin, chief executive
officer of RediClinic.“Although the flu season is already
underway, there is still time to get vaccinated, and you can’t
beat the convenience and affordability of RediClinic.”
Influenza
is a highly contagious respiratory illness with potentially serious
complications. The CDC recommends that everyone should be vaccinated,
including school-aged children, in order to reduce the risk of becoming
ill with influenza or of transmitting it to others.
“Getting a flu shot is one thing we can all do to help protect
ourselves and our loved ones while promoting public health in our
communities,” said Attorney General McDonnell. “National
Influenza Vaccination Week is the perfect time to get vaccinated,
and I’m honored to help deliver that message.”
RediClinics are in-store healthcare facilities
that offer consumers easy access to high-quality, routine health
services at affordable prices. RediClinics are staffed
by certified nurse practitioners who work with local physicians
to diagnose, treat and prescribe medications for common conditions,
such as earaches, strep throat and upper respiratory infections.
They also administer a wide range of preventive services, including
health screening, flu shots and other vaccinations, and back-to-school
physical exams.
RediClinics are open seven days a week (including
most holidays) and offer extended hours on weekdays. Adults and
children over age two are welcome, no appointments are necessary,
and a typical visit takes about 15 minutes.
RediClinic uses a proprietary
electronic medical record system to document and guide patient visits.
This system ensures patient suitability to RediClinic’s limited
scope of practice and facilitates continuity of care when other clinicians
are involved. Patients
who cannot be treated at RediClinic, or who need ongoing treatment,
are referred to their primary care provider, if they have one,
or to other physicians in their communities.
RediClinic visits are
now covered by the four largest commercial health insurance carriers – Aetna,
CIGNA, Humana and UnitedHealthcare – as
well as by Medicare and a growing number of regional carriers such
as Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Oklahoma. Those who are covered by health plans that
do not currently have agreements with RediClinic receive specially-formatted
receipts that can be filed for possible reimbursement
RediClinic
operates 19 locations in H-E-B stores in Houston, Austin and
San Antonio,Texas; 13 locations in Wal-Mart stores in Tulsa,
Okla., Fayetteville and Rogers, Ark. and Richmond, Va. Additional
