RediClinic is Your Local Resource for Prevention and Treatment of Seasonal Illnesses
October 1, 2009 (Houston, TX) – The 2009-2010 cold, cough and flu season is of special interest because of the recent resurgence of the H1N1 flu virus. Acting as a hub for concerned patients, RediClinics in Houston and Austin are offering a comprehensive approach to seasonal illness prevention – including access to the most up-to-date information – and a variety of treatment options.
RediClinic is currently offering FluMist®, a nasal flu vaccine, as a first defense against the seasonal flu virus. Other prevention techniques identified by the Centers for Disease Control that residents should keep in mind this season include:
Washing your hands frequently |
Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue in the trash after it has been used |
Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth |
Trying to avoid close contact with those who are ill |
Staying home if you get sick |
Disinfecting surfaces that may spread infection |
“This flu season is going to be particularly confusing, so RediClinic is going to do everything possible to make illness prevention and treatment simple,” said Nancy Ross, Nurse Practitioner at RediClinic. “All of our clinicians are prepared to share information and advice with patients interested in learning how to prevent these illnesses, and our clinics are open seven days a week and after school and work on weekdays to ensure that patients have access to care when they need it most.”
With so many potential seasonal illnesses, it can be difficult to distinguish the differences between a cold, seasonal flu or H1N1 flu. Colds usually begin with a sore throat followed by clear, watery nasal drainage; sneezing; a tired sensation and sometimes a low-grade fever. In contrast, seasonal flu & H1N1 flu symptoms come on suddenly and usually begin with a high fever, headache, extreme fatigue and body aches. Additionally, a significant number of people infected with H1N1 flu have reported diarrhea and vomiting.
All RediClinic locations expect to offer the H1N1 vaccine when it is projected to become available in mid-October. Meanwhile, for patients experiencing flu-like symptoms, RediClinic offers diagnostic tests and treatment options to help them get healthy as quickly as possible.
Flu vaccines, diagnostic tests and treatment options are only a few of the services offered at your local RediClinic. The clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work with local physicians to diagnose, treat and prescribe medications for common conditions such as earaches, strep throat and upper respiratory infections. They also administer a wide range of preventive services, including health screenings, vaccinations and basic physical exams. No appointments are necessary.
RediClinic visits are covered by the five largest commercial health insurance carriers in Texas, Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, CIGNA, Humana and UnitedHealthcare, and a growing number of other third-party payers. For those who do not have health insurance or who are covered by a plan that does not have an agreement with RediClinic, most “Get Healthy” visits cost $79.
