Healthy Travel is as Close as Your Local RediClinic
RediClinic Offers International Travelers
a Convenient and Affordable New Way to Identify Medical Needs and
Get Immunizations
Houston, TX (April 23, 2009) – Between 10 and 35 million people who travel from industrialized countries to developing nations report some illness associated with their travel, reported The New England Journal of Medicine in an article titled “Illness After International Travel.” Starting
today RediClinic takes the guess-work out of travel medicine by offering
residents a Travel Healthy Package. For $75, this package provides
patients with a comprehensive medical overview of their travel destination
and a list of required immunizations, which are also available at
RediClinic for an additional charge.
“The Travel Healthy Package is a great tool for international travelers to identify their medical needs before their trip,” said Web Golinkin, CEO, RediClinic. “It is especially important for international travelers to ensure that when booking travel, they have enough time to receive destination-specific immunizations, some of which are administered over several months.”
The RediClinic Travel Healthy Package includes: a destination-specific travel risk assessment, vaccination recommendations and administration, recommended travel prescriptions, an immunization certificate and general travel tips. The package also includes a comprehensive travel report focusing on health and safety issues based on individual itineraries, including a country profile, hospital/clinic information, basic preventive measures, safety and security tips, embassy locations, crime statistics and information regarding public and private transportation.
“International travel can be very rewarding, but its health risk should be taken seriously,” said Golinkin. “RediClinic can help to minimize these risks while saving travelers time and money.”
In addition to the Travel Healthy Package, international travelers are encouraged by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to put together a traveler’s health kit, including:
| • |
Personal prescription medications in their original containers (copies of all prescriptions should be carried, including the generic names for medications, and a note from the prescribing physician on letterhead stationery for controlled substances and injectable medications) |
| • |
Anti-malarial and other prophylactic medications, when applicable. These prescriptions could be provided by RediClinic during a Travel Healthy visit. |
| • |
Over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medication (e.g., bismuth subsalicylate, loperamide) |
| • |
Antihistamine |
| • |
Decongestant, alone or in combination with antihistamine |
| • |
Anti-motion sickness medication |
| • |
Acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or other medication for pain or fever |
| • |
Mild laxative |
| • |
Cough suppressant/throat lozenges/expectorant |
| • |
Antacid |
| • |
Antifungal and antibacterial ointments or creams |
| • |
1% hydrocortisone cream |
| • |
Epinephrine auto-injector (e.g., EpiPen), especially if history of severe allergic reaction (Available in smaller-dose package for children.) |
RediClinics are in-store healthcare facilities staffed by certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work with local physicians to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications for common medical conditions, such as earaches, strep throat, and upper respiratory infections. RediClinic’s clinicians also administer a wide range of preventive services, including health screenings, flu shots and other vaccinations, and basic physical exams.
RediClinics are open seven days a week (including most holidays) and offer extended hours on weekdays. Adults and children over age two are welcome, no appointments are necessary, and a typical visit takes about 15 minutes.
RediClinic visits are covered by the five largest commercial health insurance carriers in Texas – Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield of Texas, CIGNA, Humana and UnitedHealthcare and a growing number of other third party payers. For those who do not have health insurance, or who are covered by a plan that does not have an agreement with RediClinic, all Get Healthy visits cost $75.00, including any instant diagnostic tests that may be required.
