Earlier this year, King was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnae by the University of Texas Austin School of Nursing. She also received Harris County Hospitals District’s 2008 Hank Coleman Leadership Award, and was honored as a Woman of Distinction in 2006 by The Woman’s Home, a shelter for homeless women in Houston offering counseling for mental illness, drug abuse and alcohol addiction.
