Don’t let Back-to-School sneak up on you; get a physical this summer and beat the rush! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends an annual physical for children through the age of six and then every other year, resuming an annual exam during the middle school and teen years.

Vaccinations

Vaccines are the most effective protection against many diseases that threaten the health and well-being of children. There are new state immunization requirements for the 2009 - 2010 School Year:
Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine All students entering kindergarten and 7th grade are required to have two doses of varicella. A written statement attesting to the child’s history of varicella immunity is accepted.
Hepatitis A Vaccine:  All students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hep A vaccine.
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) Vaccine: All students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Tetanus, Diphtheria and Tdap:  All students entering 7th grade are required to have a booster dose of Tdap only if it has been five years since their last dose of a tetanus-containing vaccine. Students in grades 8-12 are required to have a booster dose of Tdap if it has been ten years since their previous dose of a tetanus-containing vaccine.
